Delray Beach Police are warning about reports of counterfeit $20 bills that are being used at several restaurants in the city.

A police spokesman says people are walking in, buying small ticket items and using the fake twenties to get change back. He says this happened a handful of times.

Business owners and residents are urged to be vigilant and take a moment to inspect any $20 bills they receive.

Meanwhile, police are working with other law enforcement agencies that are seeing the same thing.

Delray Beach PD says counterfeit bills can be checked using forgery detection pens and checking for the security strip that is embedded in real bills. Anyone who detects a phony 20 should contact police.
