The "King of the Conga," Santiago de Cuba-born, and Lucille Ball's ex-husband, Desi Arnaz, is being honored today where he got his big American break, on Miami Beach.
The band leader, star and pioneer of television and motion pictures as well as owner Desilu Productions and RKO Radio Pictures (along with Ball,) is being honored with an historic marker this afternoon at Collins Park.
Today is even all the more historic as it also marks the 73rd anniversary of the “I Love Lucy” premiere in 1951.
Desi, remembered for his role as "Ricky Ricardo," used to perform at the then Ten Park Avenue nightclub once located at Collins and 23rd Street.
