It's Spring Break in many Florida counties and the beaches are filling up along the Treasure Coast. Even though kids in Martin County had their break last week, it's still busy there.
"We're really gonna see just a steady increase throughout the Spring and into the Summer. Now we're really getting into our busy season."
Martin County Ocean Rescue Chief Ian Montgelas says the ocean is a "dangerous place" and he's trying to educate beachgoers.
"So there’s never going to be no hazards. There is always going to be some sort of hazard even when flying a green flag."
He tells CBS 12 News that swimmers need to follow the warning flags and says that if the need arises, his agency has you covered.
“The good thing about our department is that we have the tools necessary to go respond to those areas if something were to happen. We have our side-by-side, we have our ATVs, we have a Jetski, so we have tools if there was an emergency at an unguarded area we could get there quickly.”
There are at least 25 lifeguards spread across the county's four guarded beaches. Those are Bathtub Beach, Hobe Sound Beach, Jensen Beach and Stuart Beach.
