A Florida lawmaker is withdrawing a proposal to require drivers to register front license plates.

Republican Senator Joe Gruters says that after feedback from other legislators and constituents, he will remove the requirement from the "Lilly Glaubach Act," which is named in honor of a 13-year old Sarasota girl who died in a hit and run crash in 2022.

The bill is aimed at tackling the rising number of hit and runs in Florida with a primary goal to enhance accountability for vehicle repair shops and prevent people from obtaining repairs under false pretenses.

The front license plate requirement proposal was added to the bill as an amendment to help law enforcement identify vehicles involved in hit and runs. But Gruters now says he will remove it from the bill during its next committee hearing.
