FLORIDA - Florida has permanently eliminated sales tax on essential hurricane supplies and introduced two major tax holidays for back-to-school gear and outdoor equipment to help families save year-round.
Florida has rolled out major changes to its tax policy that will impact millions of families.
In a rare move, state lawmakers have removed the sales tax from several essential items, making this financial break permanent instead of offering it just seasonally.
This means residents can now save money on hurricane supplies and safety gear all year, not just during storm season.
Previously, Floridians relied on short-lived tax holidays to stock up on emergency goods.
Accord to reports, this year’s state budget has taken a different route.
Items like batteries, smoke detectors, portable generators, and life jackets are now permanently exempt from sales tax.
Even sunscreen and insect repellent are included.
In addition, the budget introduces two big tax holidays aimed at families and outdoor lovers.
A back to school sales tax break will now happen every August.
It covers clothing and school supplies under specific price points, including computers up to fifteen hundred dollars.
The state also approved a new hunting and camping sales tax event.
From September through the end of the year, everything from tents and fishing rods to gun accessories and camping lanterns will be tax-free.
Governor Ron DeSantis praised the changes as a win for working families.
The adjustments are expected to help residents prepare for emergencies while also easing the cost of education and outdoor activities.
With storm season approaching, the timing of this relief could not be more perfect.
