Miami-Dade, FL - A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office search warrant linked to a long-running child pornography investigation ended in a fatal deputy-involved shooting after an armed man allegedly confronted law enforcement.

Deputies fatally shot an armed man early Tuesday while serving a search warrant connected to a year-long child pornography investigation at a home in the Palmetto Estates area of southwest Miami-Dade.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived around 5:30 a.m. to execute a warrant issued through the Internet Crimes Against Children unit, which had been investigating the alleged possession, distribution and viewing of child sexual abuse material involving victims as young as infants up to six years old.

Authorities said deputies first encountered two adults and a child at the door, and all three were safely removed from the house.

Moments later, an armed individual allegedly approached deputies and refused repeated commands to drop his weapon.

Deputies fired and provided medical aid, but the man died at the scene.

His identity has not been released.

A second man, identified in the warrant as the subject of the child pornography investigation, was taken into custody without incident.

Officials have not clarified whether the man who was shot was involved in the alleged crimes under investigation.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting the standard review of the shooting, including determining whether the armed individual fired a weapon.

No deputies were injured.

A significant law enforcement presence, including armored vehicles from the Special Response Team, surrounded the residence as the operation unfolded.

A woman at the scene said her 3-year-old grandson was inside the home but was unharmed.

Authorities emphasized that warrants involving child exploitation cases are considered high-risk due to the nature of the investigations.
